The Empty Nest: Our Five Beautiful Truths

February 25, 2020 by Donna

The freedom we are experiencing in our marriage feels amazing and we are having so much fun making the best of it! After years of routine in the form of bed times, cooking schedules, helping with homework, drop off and pick up times, being a chauffeur, and making plans around needing childcare coverage, we are now free to do whatever we like whenever we like. Perhaps we would miss it all, if we didn’t give it our all.

Afternoon Tea: Grooming Girl Leaders

February 10, 2020 by Donna

This tea event represents so much of what life should be - creating memories, planting seeds, serving others, lifting others up, collaboration over competition, being “extra”, and showing gratitude. Someone may not see how an Afternoon Tea could make such a strong impact on a child. But what I know is that…

When You Are EXTRAordinary, Your Life and Death Does the Talking

February 03, 2020 by Donna

…I didn’t know them personally nor am I the biggest Professional Basketball fan. As the tributes and remembrances aired one by one it became evident that Kobe Bryant and his “Mamba Mentality” was EXTRAordinary! It hurts so deeply because when someone who is EXTRAordinary leaves us, we are all left with a void of an extraordinary size.

Short Hair Don't Care: A Celebration

January 28, 2020 by Donna

That’s when the cycle of cutting my hair, growing it back, and spontaneously cutting it all off again began.  While I enjoyed cutting my hair for the thrill and creativity of it all, I didn’t celebrate having short hair. Perhaps, because I knew that based on how fast it would grow I could never let the feeling sink all the way in.

Find a Style You Love, Own it, and Then Outgrow it

January 21, 2020 by Donna in Style Consultation

I find myself at the crossroad of Taking Style Risks or Playing it Safe all the time! To be honest, taking style risks is hard and depending on what’s going on in my life, I just don’t have time to prioritize this. Luckily, I have a long and detailed track record of taking style risks so my default is well-developed. Lately, I’ve been choosing to use the moments in my life when I’m scheduled to have an EXTRAordinary life experience as an opportunity to take style risks, further define and refine my personal style.

Steer Yourself Into the Life You've Imagined

January 13, 2020 by Donna

Turning the wheel was easy, but keeping the boat steady and on course was challenging as the elements of wind and waves casually moved along without regard for my skill-set or anything else for that matter. Yet, I was determined to have the experience I’d imagined, and I did!

Instantly, I equated this experience to life.

A Caribbean Tea Party Set The EXTRAORDINARY Tone for 2020

January 07, 2020 by Donna

From the beginning prayer, my heart began filling up and it continued to fill as I witnessed my Aunt quietly revel in her vision and hard work in full, EXTRAordinary bloom. Likewise, it was beautiful to witness my mother, daughter and all the other ladies smiling, laughing, and indulging in tea and light bites laced with a Caribbean twist. In my vivid imagination, I could see stress diminishing, hope budding, dreams birthing, and love floating around.

My 2019 Reflections...A Year of Actualization and Overflow

December 30, 2019 by Donna

The words I would often say to others and had no problem believing under less challenging circumstances began to echo inside of me: “everything is temporary”. With that reminder, I allowed myself to fully feel whatever I needed to feel for as long as I needed to all while fighting for God’s promise of an abundant life. I didn’t want to lose hope for a life of overflow, so I chose not to!

Grief Stole My Christmas Spirit, but a Visit HOME is Bringing it Back

December 24, 2019 by Donna

From my experience growing up in the Virgin Islands, it’s basically understood fairly early on that Santa is a fun and fictitious character used to spark joy and wonder during the season.  Perhaps this was the only way to market the jolly fella since the archetype of a caucasian man dressed in “Winter gear” who enters down chimneys is a tough concept to perpetuate…

The Whitney Plantation: A Humbling Learning Experience

December 16, 2019 by Donna

Likewise, we were reminded that slavery was a business which left little to no reason for enslaved people to be treated with any dignity since the only focus was on productivity by any means necessary. Hearing this, along with the visuals on the property, hurt to the core. The conditions were designed for owners to have complete control.
